RAM prices surge 500% amid shortages as Asus unveils Xbox Ally X20
The computer hardware market is facing significant volatility due to a severe shortage and price surge in RAM. Prices for RAM have reportedly increased by 500%, with capacity for 2026 and 2027 already sold out. This trend is driven by the expansion of generative AI and global conflicts, with projections suggesting inflated RAM and SSD prices may persist until 2030.
Despite these market pressures, Asus has announced the Xbox Ally X20, a special gold-themed anniversary version of its handheld gaming system. The device features an OLED display, TMR joysticks, and a transforming D-pad similar to Xbox Elite controllers. While it utilizes the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and 24GB of memory as the original, it will be available as a standalone unit for $1,299 or as a bundle with Asus ROG Xreal R1 glasses for $2,499.
