Ramabai Ranveer wins marathon barefoot to fund daughters' education

Ramabai Ranveer, a 47-year-old mother from Ambajogai in Maharashtra’s Beed district, won the ‘Amrit Daud’ marathon to fund her daughters’ higher education. Despite competing against younger participants wearing tracksuits and sports shoes, Ranveer ran the race wearing a traditional sari.

During the competition, her slippers began to slip, prompting her to remove them and run barefoot while holding them in her hand. She successfully overtook other runners to secure first place, earning a cash prize of ₹3,000. Ranveer, who works as a cook at a local academy to support her family following her husband's death in Mumbai, stated she intends to use the prize money to purchase books and pay school fees for her daughters.

One of her daughters is currently pursuing a BSc degree, while the other is preparing for police recruitment exams.
