Ramadan Sobhi's four-year doping ban upheld by Swiss court
The Swiss Federal Tribunal has rejected an appeal by Egyptian footballer Ramadan Sobhi, upholding a four-year ban imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The ruling follows a doping case that began in 2024 after atypical results were found in the player's samples. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed a previous decision by Egyptian authorities that had allowed the player to return to competition.
The ban, which includes violations related to the manipulation of sample collection procedures, prevents Sobhi from participating in any sporting activity until November 2029.
In response to the legal finality of the suspension, Pyramids FC has initiated procedures to terminate Sobhi's contract. The club's decision aligns with FIFA regulations that prohibit maintaining contracts with suspended players, as the club seeks to avoid legal or regulatory consequences. Sobhi's contract was originally set to run until the end of the 2028 season.
