Ramallah and al-Bireh forces call for national program to recover detained remains

National and Islamic political forces in the Ramallah and al-Bireh governorate have called for widespread public participation in a national program scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 2026. The initiative aims to demand the return of the bodies of martyrs currently held in numbered graves and refrigeration units by Israeli authorities.

The forces highlighted recent reports indicating that approximately 1,700 bodies are being held, though estimates suggest the actual number may be significantly higher. They are calling for international pressure and accountability, specifically urging the International Committee of the Red Cross and various human rights organizations to take radical new steps to secure the release of these remains.

In addition to the repatriation efforts, the groups are demanding international protection for Palestinian prisoners and civilians against settler violence. Domestically, they have called for a comprehensive national dialogue to rebuild the political system within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to ensure national unity and protect Palestinian rights.
