Ramanathaswamy Temple hosts mass lamp-lighting ritual

More than 1,000 women gathered at the Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram to perform a collective ritual lighting 1,008 lamps. The ceremony took place in the temple's third prakaram, one of its distinctive corridors.

Organized on behalf of the Kanyakumari Vivekananda Kendra, the event included devotional singing and floral offerings. The participants, dressed in traditional attire, sat in long rows along the grand temple corridor to light the lamps. The number 1,008 used for the lamps holds religious significance in Hindu traditions, often associated with sacred recitations and temple rituals. The Ramanathaswamy Temple is a major Shiva pilgrimage site with historical connections to the Ramayana.
