Ramayana film to have shorter runtime for China release
The upcoming Indian mythological film Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will feature a different version for its release in China. The Chinese cut is reportedly 33 minutes shorter than the Indian version, with a listed runtime of 166 minutes.
This reduction is attributed to China's Film Industry Promotion Law, which prohibits content that undermines state religious policies or promotes superstition. The film will be released in the Chinese market under the title Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince.
Industry observers suggest the release could reignite interest in Indian cinema within China, which saw a decline following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. The first part of the film is scheduled for release on November 8, with the second part following on Diwali next year.
