Ramayana film utilizes motion capture and unique actor compensation

The upcoming two-part epic film ‘Ramayana’, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is utilizing advanced motion capture technology and virtual environments for its production. Cinematographer Pankaj Kumar stated that because the project is VFX-heavy and relies on digital environments and blue screens, every scene was pre-visualized and animated in virtual settings to coordinate camera movements with animators.

Actor Yash, who portrays Ravana and serves as a co-producer, has reportedly opted for a unique compensation model. Instead of a conventional acting fee—previously estimated at approximately Rs 100 crore—Yash has chosen to take the South Indian theatrical distribution rights for both parts of the film. The production, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, is being positioned as one of India’s most expensive cinematic projects.
