Rambachan Rai named Bihar Legislative Council Chairman

Awadhesh Narayan Singh, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Bihar Legislative Council. He is being succeeded by Rambachan Rai, representing the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)).

This leadership change is reportedly part of a power-sharing agreement between the BJP and its ally, the JD(U), within the ruling coalition. According to NDA sources, the parties have reached a consensus to ensure leaders from both parties head different legislative houses.

Singh, who was appointed to the role in June 2024, had previously served as Chairman from 2012 to 2017 and again starting in 2020. He had originally taken the position following the departure of Devesh Chandra Thakur. Upon his resignation, Singh expressed satisfaction with his tenure and support for his successor.
