Ramban land subsidence forces evacuation of three families

Ten members from three families have been evacuated in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir following land subsidence in the village of Kulthi Chakka Kundi. The subsidence, occurring along the Chenab River in Rajgarh tehsil, caused significant structural damage, including the destruction of a non-residential building and cracks in several residential houses.

Administrative, revenue, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams responded to the site, providing the displaced families with tents for temporary accommodation. While officials are monitoring the situation, local residents have expressed concerns that water released from the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project following heavy rainfall may have contributed to the ground instability. The exact cause of the subsidence has not yet been officially established.

Local political leaders have visited the area to demand compensation and rehabilitation for those affected, noting additional reports of cracks in several other homes in the vicinity.
