Rami Kodeih’s ‘Furies’ premieres at Venice Film Festival

Rami Kodeih’s second feature film, ‘Furies’, has premiered in the Venice Spotlight section at the 83rd Venice Film Festival. The film serves as a hybrid between a social investigation and a heist movie, set against the backdrop of Lebanon’s severe economic crisis in 2022.

The narrative follows two sisters, Maro and Dalia, who are struggling to navigate a landscape where banks have blocked citizens from accessing their own savings. When Dalia requires urgent and expensive surgery for a tumor, Maro orchestrates a bank robbery to secure the necessary funds.

Co-written by Nora Mariana, the film was inspired by personal experiences regarding the economic instability and healthcare challenges in Lebanon. The story focuses on the bond between the two protagonists as they attempt to reclaim their agency and fight against corruption and poverty.
