Ramiro Núñez wins debut at U19 World Boxing Championship

Mexican boxer Ramiro Núñez secured a victory in his debut at the 2026 U19 World Boxing Championship in Budva, Montenegro. Competing in the 90 kg category, Núñez defeated Greece's Athanasios T. via a split decision.

The match was marked by officiating controversy during the third round. While the Greek boxer reportedly landed several illegal blows to the back of the head without warning, the referee penalized Núñez by deducting a point. Despite this setback, Núñez's performance in the second round, which included a knockdown sequence that forced a standing eight count for his opponent, allowed him to advance.

Núñez is scheduled to face Yerketang Zharkynbek of Kazakhstan in the next round on Wednesday, October 21.
