Ramiz Mehdiyev trial begins in Baku

The trial of former Presidential Administration head Ramiz Mehdiyev is set to begin at the Baku Court of Grave Crimes under Judge Murad Aslanov. The legal proceedings follow a criminal investigation launched by the State Security Service in October 2025.

Mehdiyev, along with Abbas Abbasov and Ali Kerimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan People's Front Party, was detained as part of an investigation into alleged activities against national security and interests. The prosecution alleges that foreign intelligence services utilized an organization known as the ‘Russia-Azerbaijan Organizations Alliance’ (also referred to as the ‘Billionaires Alliance’) to interfere in Azerbaijan's political processes.

According to the indictment, Mehdiyev, along with several others including Fuad Qahramanolu and Ganimat Zahid, allegedly conspired to forcibly seize state power and change the country's constitutional structure. Investigators claim that between August and September 2025, Mehdiyev prepared a document titled ‘Proposals on the Reconstruction of the State Management System’ in a foreign language, which was intended to outline directions for activities against the state power.
