Ramón Carrillo Regional Hospital celebrates 20 years of newborn identification service

The Ramón Carrillo Regional Hospital held a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of its Newborn Identification Service. The service was established to protect the right to identity for children from birth and address vulnerabilities in infant identification.

During the event, Hospital Director Mónica Salvatierra reported that the service has successfully identified more than 100,000 children over the past two decades, ensuring the protection of the mother-child bond.

Justice Minister Matilde O’Mill emphasized that identity is a fundamental human right and the basis of dignity. She noted the importance of simplifying the registration process to ensure every child receives a birth certificate and national ID, which facilitates access to education, healthcare, and universal social benefits. The ongoing digitalization of the Civil Registry is also being utilized to prevent historical errors in birth records.
