Ramón Jesurún's Fourth Term as FCF President Faces Legal Challenge
The Colombian Ministry of Sport has raised a legal challenge to the re‑election of Ramón Jesurún as president of the Federación Colombiana de Fútbol (FCF) for the 2026‑2030 term. Under Decree 1228 of 1995, sports officials may serve a maximum of three consecutive four‑year terms, a total of twelve years. Jesurún has led the federation since 2015, winning elections for the 2015‑2019, 2019‑2023 and 2023‑2027 cycles. A new appointment for 2026‑2030 would constitute a fourth consecutive term, exceeding the legal limit.
The ministry’s document, supported by several professional football club executives, argues that the appointment violates the decree and could be invalidated. The dispute has moved from internal federation deliberations to the national sports authority, putting Jesurún’s continued tenure in doubt pending a legal resolution.
