Ramón Ángel ‘N’ files amparo against drug and weapons charges

Defense attorneys for Ramón Ángel ‘N’, known as ‘El R1’, have filed an amparo (constitutional protection) to halt legal proceedings against him regarding charges of methamphetamine trafficking and possession of firearms reserved for the Armed Forces. The legal challenge targets the decision by District Judge Mariana Vieyra Valdés to link the defendant to the criminal process.

As a result of the provisional suspension granted, the case will not be sent to the Trial Court for the opening of oral trials until the intermediate stage of the process is concluded and the judge provides further justification for the decision to link him to the proceedings. A constitutional hearing for this amparo is scheduled for October 5, 2026.

In related legal filings, the defense has named President Claudia Sheinbaum as a responsible authority, alleging acts of torture and lack of communication. The defense also claims there are attempts to deport the defendant to the United States. ‘El R1’ is currently held at the Altiplano Federal Penitentiary in the State of Mexico, where he faces additional charges including homicide and extortion.
