Ramon Abrahams criticizes NDP leadership and lack of direction

Ramon Abrahams, vice chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), has criticized the current leadership of the party and the government, describing the situation as a “mess” due to a lack of decisive leadership.

Abrahams expressed concerns that the party is failing to uphold the legacy of Desi Bouterse. He noted that since Bouterse's passing, the party has failed to hold cadre meetings, a practice Bouterse utilized frequently to communicate with members. Abrahams claimed that many experienced members, particularly older party veterans, are being excluded from the decision-making process.

Regarding party governance, Abrahams stated that he has not had a personal meeting with NDP chair Jennifer Simons since her inauguration, only meeting in group settings. He also suggested that the party may need to hold leadership elections earlier than the scheduled 2029 date to prevent the organization from collapsing before the next general elections.
