Ramona Optics raises $25 million for biomedical imaging technology

Ramona Optics, a biomedical imaging company based in Durham, North Carolina, has secured $25 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round. The financing was led by ARCH Venture Partners, with participation from Stealthpoint Ventures, ND Capital, Fall Line Capital, Hamamatsu Ventures, Murchison Capital Partners, and Overlap Holdings.

The company intends to utilize the capital to expand its commercial operations and advance its proprietary Multi-Camera Array Microscopy (MCAM) technology. This technology integrates multiple imaging sensors, computational optics, and artificial intelligence to provide high-resolution biological imaging across large fields of view, addressing a common limitation in conventional microscopy.

Ramona Optics has already introduced two commercial systems: Vireo, which is designed for cellular models, and Kestrel, which is developed for small model organisms. Both platforms utilize AI-powered analysis to assist researchers in interpreting large biological datasets for use in pharmaceutical research and disease studies.
