Ramos Arizpe Free Student Transport Program Boosts Access to Higher Education

The Ruta Estudiantil Gratuita, a free transport initiative launched in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, provides daily mobility for students and university staff. Backed by Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and Mayor Tomás Gutiérrez Merino, the service moves more than 60,000 passengers each month, reaching roughly 800,000 users annually.

University leaders praised the program for lowering economic barriers, expanding enrollment opportunities and improving student retention. Alma Aleida López Barrón, rector of the Universidad Politécnica de Ramos Arizpe, highlighted its role in promoting equality of opportunity, while Sergio Guadarrama Cortez, rector of the Universidad Tecnológica de Coahuila, noted the direct support it offers to over 800 students and workers at his institution.

The initiative connects campuses with workplaces and key municipal points, aiming to strengthen educational continuity and support families across the region.
