Ramos Arizpe poultry program supports 3,000 rural families

The municipal government of Ramos Arizpe is implementing the 'Aves de Traspatio' (Backyard Poultry) program to support rural communities in Coahuila. To date, the initiative has distributed 31,800 Rhode Island Red chicks to more than 3,180 families across 83 rural localities.

In a recent distribution in the Cañada Ancha ejido, 180 families received 10 vaccinated birds each, along with 25-kilogram bags of feed. Mayor Tomás Gutiérrez Merino stated that the program provides families with the initial tools to produce eggs for home consumption and, eventually, generate additional income by selling surplus production.

Marybell Georgina Marty Garza, Director of Rural Development, noted that the birds are vaccinated against Newcastle disease, smallpox, bronchitis, and avian influenza. The program also encourages beneficiaries to participate in constructing or adapting poultry coops to ensure proper bird development and protection.
