Ramos Arizpe municipality rolls out inclusion and aid programs for students with visual impairments and elderly citizens

The municipal government of Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, organized a specialized training for operators of the city’s student transport route to improve assistance for passengers with visual disabilities. The session, led by Melissa Peña Escalante of the DIF’s Disability Area, provided practical guidance on communication, safe accompaniment and creating accessible environments, reflecting mayor Tomás Gutiérrez Merino’s priority on inclusive public services.

In a separate initiative, Ramos Arizpe authorities, together with the state and local DIF offices, distributed food parcels to more than 180 vulnerable seniors through the “Atención Integral para Personas Mayores” (AMA) program. The delivery, overseen by DIF Coahuila head Liliana Salinas Valdés and local DIF president Teresita Escalante Contreras, included staple items such as fortified milk, legumes, rice and vegetables, aiming to strengthen nutrition and economic security for adults over 60.

Both actions underscore the municipality’s effort to support vulnerable groups—students with disabilities and older adults—through coordinated social‑welfare programs.
