Ramos Arizpe promotes tourism and targets illegal fishing

The municipality of Ramos Arizpe is focusing on tourism development and environmental protection. The local government has announced the Ramos Fest 2026, scheduled for August 28–30, following a successful 2025 event that drew over 71,000 attendees. Mayor Tomás Gutiérrez Merino stated the festival aims to boost local commerce, gastronomy, and regional tourism, featuring activities such as the second edition of Lechón Fest.

Simultaneously, authorities are considering stricter penalties for illegal fishing at the Palo Blanco Dam. This follows an incident where Civil Protection officers caught foreign visitors using prohibited fishing gear. Proposed sanctions include fines, vehicle seizures, and potential detentions to protect the more than 10,000 fish specimens planted in the reservoir. The municipality intends to increase investment in the dam to maintain it as a regulated family and sports destination.
