Ramsey murder trial: Defendant claims self-defence in fatal stabbing
A 15-year-old boy accused of murdering 14-year-old Christopher McBurnie in Ramsey has provided testimony during his trial. The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admits to inflicting the fatal wound but has pleaded not guilty to murder, claiming he acted in self-defence.
During the trial, the defendant testified that he grabbed a knife from a block because he feared a group of approximately 20 to 30 people outside his home would smash windows and force their way inside. He stated he intended to use the knife to threaten the group and scare them away rather than to cause harm. He also noted that he did not call the police because he feared they would not arrive quickly enough.
