Kosovo faces political deadlock and disputes over presidential leadership
Kosovo is experiencing significant political instability characterized by institutional deadlock and intense partisan disputes. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has announced plans to convene in the Assembly to demand the continuation of the constitutive session and the formal establishment of the Assembly, accusing the ruling Vetëvendosje movement of undermining constitutional order.
Amidst this deadlock, Ramush Haradinaj has proposed that Hashim Thaçi, who is currently facing trial in The Hague, should be re-elected as President of Kosovo to complete his interrupted mandate. This proposal has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents. Armend Baloku of Vetëvendosje described the suggestion as 'total ignorance' and 'public deception,' while Agim Bahtiri labeled the PDK's stance a 'political illusion' used to block state functions.
Simultaneously, the Aleanca party conducted a symbolic protest by throwing coal in front of the Government building. The action was intended to highlight both the ongoing energy crisis and what they term 'political filth,' criticizing the government's management of energy resources and the continued reliance on electricity imports from Serbia.
