Ranbir Kapoor faces social media backlash over resurfaced video

An old video of Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has resurfaced on social media, sparking controversy among users. The clip, which dates back to 2023, shows the actor attending a Ganpati puja in Mumbai. In the footage, Kapoor is seen declining prasad offered to him, stating, “Main to diet pe hun, tum kha lo” (I am on a diet, you eat it), before handing the offering to the paparazzi.

The video has gained renewed attention due to Kapoor’s upcoming role as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic, “Ramayana”. Some social media users have criticized the actor, linking his refusal of the religious offering to the character he is set to portray. Others have defended him, noting that refusing food for dietary reasons is a personal choice and that the video is not recent.

The “Ramayana” film features a large ensemble cast, including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey. The first part of the production is expected to be released around Diwali 2026.
