Rancagua Sur begins road‑safety upgrades under Chile’s ‘Quiero Mi Barrio’ program

The municipal government of Rancagua and regional housing official Christian Villegas inaugurated a 90‑day road‑safety project in the Rancagua Sur neighbourhood. Funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism’s “Quiero Mi Barrio” programme, the work involves an investment of 82 million Chilean pesos.

The initiative will install 130 rubber speed‑bump (resalto) devices, replace and add 290 street‑name signs and 55 additional traffic signs. These measures aim to slow vehicle traffic and improve navigation for pedestrians in an area with heavy foot traffic near the former Route 5, schools, a health centre (Cesfam N°2) and a commercial street. Mayor Raimundo Agliati and Villegas said the project responds to a community‑identified need and will enhance safety and quality of life. Local residents, such as María Barría, praised the joint effort of the municipality, Minvu and the neighbourhood.
