Police in Ranchi have arrested five suspects in Kolkata in connection with the kidnapping and assault of Saurabh Kumar, the son of Janardan Paswan, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Chatra constituency in Jharkhand.
The incident occurred on September 7 near the gates of Amity University in Ranchi. According to police reports, a dispute between one of Kumar’s friends and a junior student escalated when the student allegedly called several outsiders to the scene. Approximately 10 to 12 individuals arrived in two black SUVs, assaulted Kumar with sticks, and forcibly abducted him.
During the abduction, Kumar reported being beaten and having his throat constricted inside a moving vehicle. The attackers also allegedly stole his mobile phone and a gold chain weighing approximately 20 grams. While Kumar was recovered safely within two hours of the report, authorities used CCTV footage and technical evidence to track and apprehend the suspects: Raunak Singh Rajput, Prakash Gupta, Ayush Kumar, Pritam, and Gyandeep.
