Rancul family refuses to surrender baby following court order

A legal and social conflict has emerged in Rancul, Argentina, as a foster family refuses to comply with a judicial order to surrender a seven-month-old baby. Joaquín Díaz and Ana Laura Pizzani, who have cared for the infant since he was two months old, presented a legal resource arguing that the judicial process is not yet exhausted and that the case is currently pending before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.

Judge Ana Pérez Ballester had ordered the Directorate of Childhood and Adolescence of La Pampa to retrieve the child for placement in an adoption process. However, the couple has challenged the administrative action, claiming key procedural errors. This defiance could lead to the use of public force to remove the child from the home.

The situation has sparked significant local tension, including a mass demonstration in Rancul where over two hundred people, supported by local mayors and legislators, marched to demand a review of the decision. The dispute highlights a legal tension in the foster care system, as current regulations prevent foster families from adopting the children under their temporary care, a point the couple and their supporters are contesting based on the child's emotional bonds.
