Rand Paul releases Anthony Fauci’s personal diary entries

Senator Rand Paul has released new batches of personal diary entries belonging to former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci, covering the years 2015 to 2019.

The documents contain private political reflections regarding former President Donald Trump. In entries from early 2017, Fauci described Trump as acting ‘unpresidential’ and criticized his remarks regarding the inauguration crowd and the press. During the January 2019 government shutdown, Fauci wrote that Trump was acting ‘more and more bizarre’ and suggested he ‘should be impeached.’

Additionally, the entries include private commentary on public health matters, specifically regarding an Ebola vaccine during an outbreak in West Africa. While the World Health Organization had reported high efficacy for the vaccine in 2015, Fauci’s private writings noted ‘multiple flaws in the design and the analysis of the data’ supporting the vaccine.
