Randers Municipality reports decline in rat sightings

New data from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency indicates a decrease in rat reports within Randers Municipality during the first half of the year compared to the previous two years. Local officials attribute this trend to several factors, including weather conditions, a long dry summer, effective efforts by municipal rat catchers, and increased public awareness regarding prevention.

As the high season begins in October, the municipality is maintaining a targeted approach. This includes unannounced inspections of properties between October 1 and February 28. Efforts have also shifted toward more environmentally friendly methods; rat poison usage in Randers has dropped significantly from approximately 2,700kg in 2020 to 149kg in 2025. The municipality is now prioritizing the use of intelligent traps and the maintenance of sewer and pipe networks to manage the population.
