Randstad research identifies top reasons for employee turnover in Germany
The 2026 Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR) reveals the primary drivers behind employee turnover in Germany. Based on a survey of 4,331 individuals, the study identifies low compensation as the leading reason for job changes, with 40% of respondents citing it as a factor.
A desire for improved work-life balance follows as the second most significant motivator at 30%. The research also highlights a shift in workplace priorities compared to previous years; while compensation and balance remain dominant, factors such as a negative work environment (27%), lack of career advancement (26%), and poor relationships with management (25%) have now entered the top five reasons for leaving.
In contrast, the 2025 data showed that long commuting times (25%) and attractive alternative offers (24%) were more prominent among the top reasons for employee turnover.
