Range Rover develops first electric GT; Hyundai unveils new battery tech

Range Rover is developing its first fastback-style Grand Tourer (GT), marking a departure from its traditional SUV lineup. The new model will be the first to utilize JLR’s next-generation Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. Initially launching as a pure electric vehicle, the GT is expected to feature an 800-volt system capable of 350 kW fast charging and a battery capacity exceeding 100 kWh. While official range figures are unconfirmed, targets suggest a range of up to 800 km. Production is slated to begin in the first half of 2027 at the Halewood plant in the UK.

Separately, Hyundai Motor Company has announced advancements in battery technology. The company plans to implement its self-developed high-performance battery cells in Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREV) starting in early 2027. These cells reportedly offer double the output and 40% faster charging compared to existing high-nickel batteries. Hyundai is also pursuing a dual strategy by using mid-nickel NCM batteries for mass-market electric vehicles to balance cost, lifespan, and energy density.
