Rangers defeat St Mirren 5-1 to advance in Scottish League Cup

Rangers secured a place in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals with a 5-1 victory over St Mirren at Ibrox. The win provides a significant boost for manager Derek McInnes, who had previously failed to win any of his first four fixtures.

Ryan Naderi opened the scoring for the home side in the ninth minute, followed by an 18th-minute strike from Vanja Dragojevic. Although St Mirren’s Chris Mochrie reduced the deficit shortly after, Rangers responded with two goals in two minutes from Djeidi Gassama and debutant James Penrice. Substitute Ross McCausland added a fifth goal in the 74th minute to seal the win.

During the match, Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur saved a penalty to maintain the lead. The victory marks a commanding performance for the Rangers squad as they continue their pursuit of domestic silverware.
