Enugu Rangers petition CAF following stadium vandalism during MC Alger match
Enugu Rangers secured a 2-0 victory over MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round qualifying match at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta. Despite both teams finishing with ten players due to red cards, Rangers secured the win with late goals from Kenneth Igboke and James Emo.
Following the match, Enugu Rangers formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding alleged vandalism and disorder by MC Alger supporters. The Nigerian club reported that over 400 visiting fans allegedly destroyed stadium seats, damaged an entrance gate, and entered the venue without paying fees. There were also reports that an assistant coach was attacked in the players' tunnel, requiring intervention from Nigerian police.
MC Alger has contested these claims, asserting that the damaged seats were pre-existing and criticizing the refereeing decisions and hostile reception. The Algerian side faces a significant challenge in the return leg scheduled for October 23, 2026, in Algiers, where they must overturn the two-goal deficit to advance to the group stage.
