Rangpur police investigate murders of four family members

Law enforcement agencies are investigating the brutal murders of four family members in Rangpur, Bangladesh. The victims, identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata, and their children Agami and Ayush, were found strangled in their Machuapara residence.

Two primary suspects, Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, are currently in custody. Investigators are examining several anomalies, including the deliberate disconnection of electricity to the home and the suspects' ability to afford large quantities of yaba narcotics. While Siddhartha admitted to consuming multiple tablets on the night of the killings, his family maintains they have no knowledge of how he acquired the funds for such substances.

Broader analysis of recent violence in Bangladesh suggests that while drug addiction is a factor in several recent incidents, such as the Rangpur case, other killings are frequently driven by property or land disputes.
