Rano Karno launches AI-driven Rimba Raya cinematic series

Rano Karno, the Vice Governor of Jakarta, has introduced a new AI-based cinematic series titled ‘Rimba Raya’ designed to educate younger generations about the importance of nature and the environment. The project aims to bridge the growing gap between modern children and the natural world through an entertainment-led approach.

During a press conference in Jakarta, the production team highlighted significant technical challenges encountered when using artificial intelligence. Rano Karno noted that the AI often failed to accurately represent Indonesian landscapes and wildlife, instead generating imagery characteristic of African or Amazonian forests. He emphasized that the technology is not yet perfect and requires human refinement.

Visual Director Ario Rubbik added that the AI’s logic often conflicts with traditional filmmaking theories, such as shot composition and aspect ratios. Consequently, the team continues to rely on manual storyboarding to ensure the final output aligns with the creators' vision and cultural accuracy.
