Ransomware groups Everest and Chaos attack firms in Colombia and United States

On May 29, 2026 the Everest ransomware group publicly claimed responsibility for a cyber‑attack against ERP, a Colombian organization. The attackers posted an extortion notice warning that sensitive data would be leaked unless negotiations were started.

The day before, on May 28, 2026, the Chaos ransomware group announced an attack on Powerhouse Retail Services, a U.S. retailer operating the powerhousenow.com site. The group threatened to publish the company’s internal data within 72 hours if the firm did not engage in talks.

Both incidents illustrate the growing targeting of mid‑size enterprises across sectors with ransomware extortion tactics. The reports advise organizations to monitor dark‑web activity, conduct comprehensive compromise assessments, maintain offline immutable backups, enforce multi‑factor authentication, and engage professional incident‑response teams.
