Ranucci to step down as host of Rai’s ‘Report’

Rai executives have decided to remove Sigfrido Ranucci from his long-standing role as the host of the investigative program ‘Report’. The decision follows an internal audit by the company’s ethics committee regarding Ranucci’s relationship with businessman Valter Lavitola, who is currently under judicial investigation.

To protect the ‘Report’ brand from the ongoing legal proceedings involving Lavitola, Rai intends to separate the program’s editorial future from its longtime leader. Ranucci will not be suspended or lose his position as deputy director of ‘Approfondimenti’; instead, he will be reassigned to a role of equivalent professional standing.

Potential new assignments for Ranucci include senior roles within news outlets such as Tg3 or Rainews, positions as a foreign correspondent, or corporate leadership roles. One likely possibility is leading the journalism school in Perugia. Rai management has stated that the transition aims to avoid editorial disruptions and ensure the continuity of the investigative format.
