Sir Ranulph Fiennes: Family launches legal fight over explorer's welfare
A growing dispute has emerged regarding the welfare and whereabouts of legendary British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, 82. Family members and longtime friends report that he has not been seen in public for nearly two years, following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
Allegations have been made against his second wife and legal guardian, Louise Millington-Cotes, suggesting he has been moved between various care homes under assumed names to isolate him from his loved ones. Some reports indicate that a Welsh care provider previously concluded he was “unlawfully deprived of his liberty.”
The situation has drawn high-level attention, with reports that King Charles III attempted to contact Fiennes to check on his wellbeing but was blocked by Millington-Cotes. Fiennes’ stepson, Alex Millington-Cotes, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance legal action to “locate and safeguard” the explorer and to seek the removal of his mother’s power of attorney.
While family members express deep concern over his isolation, Cheshire Police have stated they are aware of the situation and are satisfied that Fiennes is living in an appropriate setting with suitable care, noting there are “no immediate safeguarding concerns.”
