Ranveer Singh Picked for Dhurandhar to Cut Costs, Says Jio Studios Producer

Producer Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios explained that Ranveer Singh was selected as the lead of the spy‑action film Dhurandhar because the makers prioritized performance over high‑priced star value. She said hiring more expensive “so‑called stars” would have made the visually ambitious project financially unviable from the outset.

Deshpande added that Singh’s proven ability to fully inhabit his characters, demonstrated in earlier collaborations with director Aditya Dhar, made him the ideal choice. Dhurandhar, released in 2025 and directed by Dhar, became a blockbuster, grossing over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide, with its sequel later surpassing Rs 1,700 crore.
