Raoni Barcelos hospitalized after medical emergency at UFC Vegas 121
During the main event of UFC Vegas 121 in Las Vegas, Brazilian bantamweight Raoni Barcelos suffered a medical emergency after losing consciousness in the fifth round against Raul Rosas Jr. Barcelos, who had been leading on the judges' scorecards, appeared to go limp following a takedown and was subsequently transported to a hospital via stretcher.
Following the incident, Barcelos was hospitalized for observation and underwent a CT scan. His coach, Davi Ramos, and medical updates from the UFC confirmed that Barcelos is stable, alert, and responsive, with full movement in his limbs. Barcelos later released a video from the hospital stating, “I’m doing really well... I’ll be back, and I’ll come back stronger.”
The fight resulted in a technical knockout victory for the 21-year-old Rosas Jr., propelling him into the UFC bantamweight top 10. Both fighters received the “Fight of the Night” bonus. While some observers speculated on the cause of the collapse, Barcelos' team has ruled out a stroke or heart attack, noting that the medical evaluations are standard protocol.
