Rapa Nui culture featured in documentary premiere and heritage summit

The documentary film ‘Na Ninahere’ (The Children), directed by Rapa Nui filmmaker Leonardo Pakarati, is scheduled for its national premiere in Quilpué at the Centro Cultural Daniel de la Vega. The film explores the 1955 expedition of Thor Heyerdahl to Rapa Nui and focuses on Lázaro Hotu, who led the restoration of the first modern upright moai, serving as a symbol of cultural resistance and identity.

Separately, representatives from various Chilean World Heritage Sites, including the Corporación Sitio Patrimonio Mundial de Valparaíso, are meeting in Rapa Nui from September 23 to 26. The gathering aims to strengthen collaboration, exchange management experiences, and address shared challenges such as heritage tourism and disaster risk management. The event seeks to improve coordination among site administrations and advocate for better state support and legislative implementation regarding international heritage conventions.
