Rapa Nui delegation visits Vitorchiano to strengthen cultural ties

A delegation from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) visited the Italian village of Vitorchiano on August 26, 2026, to strengthen cultural ties. The visit was centered around a Moai statue located at a Vitorchiano viewpoint, which was sculpted in 1990 by indigenous sculptor Pedro Atan Pakomio and other artists using local peperino stone.

Led by Lenky Atan Hito, the delegation met with local municipal administrators for an official ceremony involving the exchange of gifts. The participants expressed a commitment to establishing an annual event to promote Rapa Nui culture in Italy and to create a permanent space for intercultural dialogue through the historical connection represented by the Moai.
