Raphael biographical series ‘Aquel’ to premiere on Netflix

Netflix will premiere ‘Aquel’ on October 9, an eight-episode biographical series chronicling the life and five-decade career of iconic Spanish singer Raphael. The production, a collaboration between DLO Producciones and Caracol Televisión, follows the artist from his humble beginnings in post-war Spain to international stages in cities such as Madrid, Paris, Moscow, Las Vegas, and Acapulco.

The series features two actors to portray the singer at different stages: Javier Morgade depicts Raphael’s youth and early festival appearances, while Carlos Santos portrays his mature years, including his professional peak and health challenges. Santos noted that filming the final episode, which covers a period of illness, was emotionally difficult.

At the series premiere held at the Cines Callao in Madrid, Raphael attended alongside his family, including his children and grandchildren. The event featured live musical performances and tributes, including a version of ‘Mi gran noche’ by Juanjo Bona. Raphael expressed that the series feels personal and respectful, noting that the creators followed his guidance closely.
