Raphaël Arnault: LFI accuses police of attempted arrest
The political party La France insoumise (LFI) has accused French police of attempting a planned arrest of deputy Raphaël Arnault on Tuesday morning. According to a statement from the party, the operation was intended to take place at the Gare de Lyon in Paris as Arnault was disembarking from a train.
LFI claims the attempt failed only because police mistakenly identified the wrong train carriage. The party described the incident as a ‘coup monté’ (setup), suggesting it was a targeted move following recent comments by the government.
During a session at the National Assembly, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez referred to Arnault as a ‘trait d’union’ (link) between LFI and certain far-left groups. Arnault, the founder of the now-dissolved Jeune Garde movement, has been under scrutiny following the death of a far-right militant in Lyon in February, an investigation in which several of his associates have been questioned.
