Raphaël Glucksmann campaigns in Pas-de-Calais to counter RN influence

Raphaël Glucksmann, a candidate in the left-wing primary for the upcoming presidential election, has launched a campaign tour in the Pas-de-Calais mining basin. The region, once a stronghold for left-wing politics, has seen a significant shift toward the far-right Rassemblement National (RN).

During a meeting in Courrières, near Marine Le Pen’s electoral stronghold of Hénin-Beaumont, Glucksmann stated his objective is to ensure that no territory is abandoned to the RN. He attributed the region's political shift to deindustrialization and the decline of public services. Glucksmann’s strategy involves holding smaller, local meetings to reconnect with voters and proposing policies aimed at re-establishing industry and improving working conditions.

The Rassemblement National currently controls 14 municipalities and four constituencies in the area.
