Rapidus launches global alliance to advance 2nm chip development
Japanese semiconductor venture Rapidus has launched the Rapidus Collaborative Open Rapid Ecosystem (CORE), a global alliance designed to accelerate the development and mass production of next-generation 2nm semiconductors. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between early-stage silicon design and volume production by integrating the entire semiconductor value chain, including research institutions, EDA providers, IP vendors, and foundries.
To address the global shortage of specialized engineering talent and lower technical barriers, Rapidus has formed the Design Solution Associates group. This group includes 17 global design specialists and partners, such as Synopsys, Infosys, Toshiba Information Systems, and Dai Nippon Printing. The collaboration is intended to help clients initiate chip designs through structured partnerships.
While the alliance represents a strategic move to secure a customer base before Rapidus begins 2nm production in late 2027, some analysts note the challenge of ensuring sufficient commercial demand. The success of the project is considered vital to Japan's industrial strategy and the resilience of its semiconductor supply chain.
