Rappi cofounder Andrés Bilbao faces backlash over unpaid internship posting

Andrés Bilbao, a co‑founder of the Colombian delivery platform Rappi, posted a LinkedIn vacancy seeking an audiovisual creator and described the role as a learning opportunity, stating “Ojo, esto no es pago.” The wording sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many accusing the company of offering unpaid work and exploiting aspiring professionals.

Bilbao later told SEMANA that the original post was a mistake and that the position was in fact paid. He said the apprenticeship would provide a monthly salary of 600,000 Colombian pesos, four‑hour weekly duties, mentorship, and the prospect of a full‑time contract with a salary of 3–3.5 million pesos after one or two months. “All work is remunerated from day one,” he affirmed, adding that the erroneous wording did not reflect the company’s policy.

The episode reignited debate in Colombia over unpaid internships and labor standards, drawing comments from public figures and highlighting the scrutiny faced by high‑profile tech entrepreneurs.
