Rapthadu school attack suspect injured in police shooting
Hemanth, the primary suspect in a violent attack on a tenth-grade student at a Rapthadu ZP High School in Anantapur district, was injured during a police encounter. Authorities report that Hemanth attempted to escape from police custody, leading officers to fire six rounds at him.
The suspect sustained severe bullet wounds to both legs. Medical professionals at the Anantapur Government General Hospital performed surgery to amputate his right leg after determining that blood circulation had ceased and the knee cap was shattered. His condition remains under observation as doctors assess the damage to his other leg.
The initial incident involved Hemanth attacking a student, Gopika, with an electric saw within the school premises. The victim was transferred to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru and remains in the ICU. The state government has pledged strict legal action following widespread public outcry and demands for justice from student unions and political leaders.
