Rare albino deer rescued and released in Imathia
A rare albino female deer, approximately 2-3 years old, has been successfully rescued and returned to the wild in the Imathia region of Greece. The animal, characterized by its pure white coat, pink eyes, and pink hooves, was struck by a vehicle about two weeks ago.
Following the accident, the deer exhibited symptoms of traumatic brain injury, including temporary blindness and disorientation. The Imathia Forestry Service, the wildlife protection organization ANIMA, and local veterinarians collaborated to provide care. The deer was treated at a veterinary clinic in Ptolemaida, where it underwent X-rays and received intravenous fluids.
To aid recovery, the deer was kept in isolation to minimize human contact. After approximately fifteen days of treatment, the animal was deemed healthy and has since been released back into its natural habitat.
