Rare blue lobster discovered in Falmouth, Cornwall

A father and son discovered a rare blue lobster during low tide at a beach in Falmouth, Cornwall. Dave Cook and his son, Dougie, found the crustacean, which is estimated to appear in only one in two million cases.

The lobster's distinct blue color is caused by a genetic abnormality that results in the overproduction of a specific protein. After measuring the lobster, which reached a length of 130mm, the pair decided to release it back into the sea to protect the local population and support marine breeding.

This discovery follows a similar event last year when a fisherman caught two rare blue lobsters off the coast of Beer, East Devon.
